Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made several key announcements at a press conference on Wednesday, laying out the specifics of the ?20-lakh-crore stimulus package announced by PM Narendra Modi Ji on Tuesday.

The package, he said, will specialise in land, labour, liquidity and laws. It will cater to varied sections, including industry , MSMEs, labourers, bourgeoisie , and industries.

The Prime Minister did not share details saying FM Nirmala Sitharaman will over the next few days spell out details for each sector.

So, here Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a slew of big ticket announcements on Wednesday, providing details of the monetary and fiscal support of Rs 20 lakh crore worth announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the previous day. The minister of finance said the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” initiative will help in spurring growth and building a self-reliant India, as envisioned by the Prime Minister. “Starting today, I will have the option to spread out subtleties of PM’s Vision over next hardly any days,” said Nirmala Sitharaman.

The minister of finance said the govt will offer bank loans amounting to Rs 3 lakh crore to small businesses as a part of measures to combat the damage caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In a media briefing of around 90 minutes, the Finance Minister also announced a credit guarantee to businesses to avail collateral-free loans from banks, aiming to help 45 lakh businesses by October 2020.

The first instalment of the series of presentations by the Finance Minister come at a time when the country remains in a nationwide lockdown with few exceptions to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The COVID-19-triggered lockdown has pushed an already-ailing economy into a standstill, hampering businesses and landing thousands jobless.

For MSMEs in Details

The FM announced ?3 lakh crore in collateral-free automatic loans for businesses, particularly MSMEs.

The collateral-free loan is to be provided to SMEs with 12-month moratorium; 45 lakh units to benefit, she said, announcing parts of the economic package.

For stressed MSMEs, Government to facilitate provision of ?20,000 crore subordinate debt for equity support. 2 lakh MSMEs likely to benefit. “The MSME definition has been revised. Investment limit will be revised,” Ms. Sitharaman said.

The Minister said that “for government procurement, global tenders are going to be disallowed for tenders up to ?200 crore.Within the next 45 days, all pending payments from government and CPSEs to MSMEs will be cleared.”
